Description
**First Time At Auction**

Kenneth Wyatt (American, 1930-2021). "Watchin' the Colors Change" oil on canvas, ca. 1975. Signed lower left. A striking Western painting by Kenneth Wyatt, featuring a lone cowboy on horseback taking in the panoramic landscape before him - "Watchin' the Colors Change" as the title describes. Horse and rider are surrounded by elegant cacti growing in the arid desert, graced by majestic mountains in the distance with billowing clouds above. As the sun rises or sets, nature's symphony of hues - myriad shades of sage, azure, lavender, buttercup, peach, and white - dazzle the viewer. Wyatt's palette is somehow vibrant yet soothing, and his masterful technique truly brings the scene to life. A mesmerizing painting by legendary cowboy artist Kenneth Wyatt, mounted in a custom frame fit with an engraved brass plaque. Wyatt's words say it all, "...Some people hear music in their souls and, in inspiration, they write it down. As for me, I see paintings in my soul ..." Size (sight view): 19.5" L x 39" W (49.5 cm x 99.1 cm) Size (frame): 27" L x 46.5" W (68.6 cm x 118.1 cm)

About the artist: Kenneth Wyatt was one of America's most respected western artists. Self-taught, his idols included legends such as Charles Russell and Frederick Remington. Born in Wichita Falls, Texas, Wyatt lived and worked in Texas and New Mexico. Just last year his paintings were exhibited in "The Cowboy in Texas Art" at Texas A&M University Art Galleries (May 18, 2023 - August 13, 2023), an exhibition that featured "premier examples of the Texas cowboy in art".
