Native American, Southwestern United States, Ancestral Pueblo (Anasazi), ca. 1100 to 1300 CE. A black-on-white pottery ladle painted with geometric motifs inside the bowl. Ladles were utilitarian tools to scoop and serve food and liquids, and in addition to their practical use in daily life, some ladles might have been used in ceremonial or ritual contexts. Ceremonial vessels and tools were often elaborately decorated, and some ladles might have held symbolic significance in religious ceremonies or communal gatherings. Size: 7.5" L x 3.75" W x 2.2" H (19 cm x 9.5 cm x 5.6 cm)
