A JOSEON DYNASTY (1392-1894) MALE ANCESTOR PORTRAIT OF YANGBAN NOBLE WITH TIGER PELT, 18TH/19TH CENTURY, gilt and watercolor on silk, a portrait of a civil servant of the first through third rank, with traditional Korean style samo hat, a belt with carved jade scenes wraps a dual crane badge worn from chest to waist, he is seated on a parcel gilt lacquered yolk back chair with tusk form handles, covered in a luxurious tiger pelt afforded only to Korean noble ruling class or gentry, his very long nails reflect his life of luxury, a pale carpet below his feet is scattered with flowering white forsythia branches; 64" x 44", framed 73" x 43".
