A RARE EARLY 19TH CENTURY EMPIRE PERIOD GILT BRONZE MANTEL CLOCK DEPICTING 'THE SPINNER'
the French ormolu clock case surmounted by a figure of Clotho, the youngets of the Three Fates, holding a staffand seated on a fountain issuing a stream of water into a shell basin, a dog beside her, and flanked by a pair of ewers, on a plinth base, the base with applied ormolu mount of a basket of fruit flanked by spinning motifs, raised on four toupie feet, the octagonal bezel decorated with shells, enclosing the white enamelled dial with Roman numerals, the original twin train movement with outside countwheel and silk suspension, striking on a bell the half hours and the hours,

The movement is running, winding, ticking and striking but not tested for time keeping or guaranteed.
The clock depicts the youngest of the Three Fates, Clotho, the spinner, who spun the thread of destiny with a distaff, determining the time of birth of an individual.
