“Life of Wm. Tecumseh Sherman,” is a biographical work by Willis Fletcher Johnson, providing a detailed account of General Shermans life and military. Reviewed by Major General Oliver Otis Howard, the book traces Shermans journey from his early days to his rise as a key military strategist during the American Civil War, including his famous “March to the Sea.” It compiles various contemporary sources and eyewitness accounts to offer a comprehensive look at Shermans tactics and his personal philosophy.

This first edition was published following Shermans death in 1891 by the Edgewood Publishing Company in Philadelphia. Illustrated with 35 maps and engravings, this volume sought to honor Shermans complex legacy as a soldier and a man of principle.
