Description
1891 1ed General Tecumseh Sherman American Civil War Illustrated Memoir
“It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, more vengeance, more desolation. War is hell.”
― William T. Sherman
William Tecumseh Sherman was 19th-century American military officer, known for his service as a Union Army general during the Civil War. His popularity and fame grew throughout the United States following the release of his personal memoirs. Edward Chase was a soldier under General Sherman who decided to commemorate the life and death of Sherman with his book ‘Memorial Life of General Sherman’.
This work, like many war memorials, gives perspective on Sherman’s commands in the Civil War, administration in the Mexican-American War, as well as his curious ‘pro-South’ attitude toward slavery. This first edition includes an introduction by Union Army general Charles H Howard.
