Description
Niccoló di Giovanni del Brigliaio 1550/1571 - 1617 Pisa There is still much to be revealed about the Italian painter Niccoló Giovanni del Brigliaio (first mentioned in Florence in 1571 - around 1617 in Pisa). It is believed that he was born in 1550, died in 1617 and worked mainly in Pisa and Florence. One of the few documents about his life is that the painter was executed in 1571 in the workshop in Florence by Michele Tosini, gen. Michele di Ridolfo (1503-1577). Around 1572 he painted the Studiolo of Francesco l de' Medici, mainly influenced by the school of Giorgio Vasari (1511-1574). Niccoló Betti also worked at the Cathedral of Pisa from 1576 to 1578. His works can be found in the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence and the Museum of Montepulciano in Siena, among others. The Italian Renaissance painter Niccoló Betti created a devotional painting with the motif of the Holy Family according to his painting technique. In the centre is the Virgin Mary with the Christ Child. In front of the two protagonists, in the front left corner of the picture, John the Baptist is placed in a robe, holding a golden cross staff, his gaze directed upwards towards Mary and the baby Jesus. Behind the Virgin Mary, two other saints are depicted. The Italian hand-carved frame, which was added later in the 17th century, is also worth mentioning. The present devotional painting by Niccoló Betti is a tempera painting on a poplar wood panel. The work has been professionally partially restored. The dimensions of the picture with frame are 78 x 65 cm and without frame 57 x 44.5 cm. Oil/ tempera on poplar wood panel, restored. Sumptuous hand carved Italian framing of the 17th century. R. 78 x 65 cm, picture dimensions 57 x 44.5 cm. Provenance: International collection.
