Description
Helen Caudle Winslow (American 1916 - 2008) Oil painting on canvas, Coastal Seascape, signed lower left, Butterfield & Butterfield label on reverse, in wood frame. 7lb Winslow was seriously dedicated to oil painting throughout her life and her work began attracting recognition in the 1950s. Although she explored many styles of painting throughout her long and productive career, studying with such notable California modernists as Roger Kuntz, James Huter, Robert Frame, and Sueo Serisawa, her greatest inspiration came from the French Impressionists. Winslow moved to Beverly Hills, California, in 1951 and has lived in Carmel since 1997. She was a lifetime member of the Art Students League in New York and also held memberships in the Society of Western Artists (San Francisco), the Royal Society of Arts (Great Britain), and the Los Angeles Art Association. She has had many one-woman shows in prominent galleries throughout the West, and her work has appeared in juried exhibitions such as the Salon des Nations in Paris (1983), the Society of Western Artists Annual (De Young Museum, San Francisco), and the Frye Art Museum in Seattle.
