Native American, Southwestern United States, New Mexico, Acoma & Jemez Pueblo, ca. 20th century CE. A collection of 3 hand-built pottery figurines of story tellers or mothers with children. The largest is a seated woman with a multitude of children seated on her lap, the underside is signed "Acoma IC." The next woman has a pair of children, and the third lady has a trio of children, draped in a blanket, and brightly painted with red, blue, white, black, and tan. The underside is signed "A. Loretto Jemez NM." Each woman has an impressed mouth to indicate singing and storytelling, passing cultural knowledge and tradition to new generations. Size of largest: 5" L x 4" W x 5" H (12.7 cm x 10.2 cm x 12.7 cm)
Provenance: private Lumberton, Texas, USA collection, acquired before 2010

Condition
Largest woman is repaired, arm reattached as well as 2 children figures. Loss to top knot. Other two are intact with only minor nicks to pigments.
