Description
Adelle Lalo Nampeyo (Hopi, b. 1959). Polychrome jar, ca. late 20th century. Signed on underside of base. A pleasing pottery seed jar made by Hopi artist Adelle Lalo Nampeyo, great-granddaughter of the famous Nampeyo of Hano who was known for reviving and expanding the beautiful ancient style of pottery called Sikyatki. Featuring a classic broad hip and narrow mouth, the seed jar is intricately hand-painted with abstract, fine-line designs of orange and black on beige. Like her sisters, Adelle learned to make pottery through watching and working with her mother and grandmother as they made pottery while she was growing up. Adelle learned the traditional, spiritual way to make pottery and she has taught that to her own daughters. She says it was that spiritual aspect that first caught her heart, and she keeps coming back for more. Size: 6" Diameter x 3.8" H (15.2 cm x 9.7 cm)
