Description
Ancient Near East, Northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1200 to 800 BCE. A cylindrical bronze mace head of lengthy form with a knob end bearing rows of diamond-shaped protrusions. The region of Luristan, which encompasses the rugged Zagros Mountain chain, is famous for its bronze work that was above and beyond the skill level of contemporary groups. Votive mace heads like these were made to be placed in graves as valuable grave goods. Size: 4.125" L x 2" W (10.5 cm x 5.1 cm)
