A fine presentation book containing engravings and cut signatures of American Bishops from the 18th and 19th centuries, with gilt page edges, bright purple ribbed cloth covers and an ornate gilt clasp to secure closed. This 40pp. 8vo. book bears either engravings nicely inlaid into the page or cut signatures mounted to the bottom, though most pages feature both. At the bottom of each page is also a line naming the bishop and his state, as well as the years of his service. Some of the 34 signatures include: SAMUEL SEABURY, SAMUEL PROVOST, WILLIAM WHITE, BENJAMIN MOORE, JOHN CROES, THOMAS CHURCH BORWNELL, WILLIAM H. DE LANCY, JOHN P. KENLY, RICHARD C. MOORE, CHRISTOPHER E. GADSEN, JAMES MADISON, JAMES KEMPF, GEORGE D. CUMMINGS, EDWARD R. ATWELL, WILLIAM F. NICHOLS, PHILLIPS BROOKS, DAVIS SESSUMS, WILLIAM C. GRAY, FRANCIS K. BROOKS, CHARLES R. HALE, WILLIAM M. BARKER, JOHN MCKIM, FREDERICK R. GRAVES, and more, including two loose signatures.
