Description

A souvenir from the U.S. Capitol building, a 4 x 3 in. slab of sandstone that has been carved into the shape of a book, engraved ‘U.S. CAPITOL 1796 1959’. Mounted to the reverse is a piece of green felt. No markings. This souvenir was likely given out to commemorate the renovation of the building in 1959, undoubtedly taken from sandstone of the Capitol building itself which was replaced during the renovation of the structure. A rare piece.
