Description
Nice lot of five newspapers from Philadelphia and Pennsylvania, ranging from 1769-1847, including: two editions of ‘Supplement to Dunlap’s American Daily Advertiser’, ‘Pennsylvania Chronicle and Universal Advertiser’, ‘Pennsylvania Journal and the Weekly Advertiser’, and the ‘Public Ledger’. Mostly, the articles contain general day-to-day local news and sales, though the ‘Public Ledger’ discusses the ‘Late and Important [News] from Veracruz’ on the front page. In part: ‘...Santa Anna at the head of 16,000 men - his pronunciamento and threatened attack on the Congress at Queretaro-Gen. Worth marching from the Capitol to protect it-Capt. Kerr’s conflict with the Guerillas and the burning of the Rancho of Colonel Zenobia-five of the Guerrilla prisoners shot-starting at the Great Train-threatened attack on the line of the Rio Grande-loss of the bark St. Mary...’. Expected toning and tears from age, else very good.
