Description
Ken McNeil (First Nations Canadian, Tahltan-Tlingit / Nisga'a, b. 1961) "Octopus Mask," wood & horsehair, ca. 2004 CE. A remarkable cedarwood and horsehair transformation mask - an octopus with a prominent beak perched upon a human face. The wood is silky smooth to the touch, the verso is signed and dated by the artist. McNeil's work has been exhibited across Canada, in the US and internationally and he has received the high honor to craft regalia and ceremonial objects for Hereditary Chiefs. This octopus mask was exhibited in the New York Museum of Arts and Design 2005-2006 "Changing Hands: Art Without Reservation 2: Contemporary Native North American Art from the West, Northwest & Pacific." Size: 14" L x 9.75" W (35.6 cm x 24.8 cm)
