Description
An antique late 19th-century Russian Orthodox icon representing Saint Nicholas of Myra, also known as the Wonderworker, with the blessing figures of Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ. Mixed media painting: egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wood board. The icon is enclosed in a gilt silver riza or oklad with etched decor and titled in Church Slavonic on the bottom. Hallmark of 84 silver standard and makers mark are on the front. The backside is lined with red velvet. The item comes with a custom made wooden kovcheg case bearing a handwritten inscription in Russian, Blessing to Elena from her Father, August 14, 1907.
