Description
A Russian Orthodox travel icon of Mother Of God Kazanskaya. The mixed media icon with egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wood panel. The icon is overlaid with a Silver oklad or riza, adorned with chased and engraved detailed patterns. Inscribed lower to the center on the riza. A suspension ring is on the top. Marked with an 84 standard Silver hallmark, and other Cyrillic and Assay marks. The Kazan Icon of the Mother of God is a revered miraculous icon of the Mother of God, which appeared in Kazan in 1579. One of the most revered icons of the Russian Orthodox Church. Three Kazan icons became the most significant in Russian history: Appeared in Kazan, Moscow, and St. Petersburg.
