1st Item: John Rogers (American, 1829 - 1904) painted Civil War plaster figural sculpture titled "The Wounded Scout - A Friend in the Swamp" depicting a Union scout who has been wounded in his arm being assisted by a black man, presumably an escaped slave, who is guiding him through a swamp. Signed and titled on the base. Patented in 1864. 22 1/8" H x 11 1/8" W x 8 1/4" D. 2nd Item: John Rogers (American, 1829 - 1904) post Civil War painted plaster figural sculpture titled "Wounded to the Rear, One More Shot." Depicts two wounded Union soldiers, one seated and binding up his injured leg, and the other standing with his left arm in a sling and with his right arm drawing a cartridge from his pouch. Signed and titled on the base. Patented in 1865. 20 7/8" H x 10 7/8" W x 9 1/2" D. Both late 19th century.
PROVENANCE: Elizabeth Ozment for the estate of Elliott Ozment, Nashville, Tennessee. Ozment was a leading Civil Rights and Immigration attorney in Nashville and former State Legislator.
