Description
Egypt, Romano-Egyptian period, ca. 30 BCE to 2nd century CE. A lovely bronze figure depicted standing with a columnar body draped in a peplos. Legs together, she folds her arms just beneath her breasts in a nearly mummiform pose as her forward-facing head is crowned by a chignon and a conical cap resembling the hedjet crown of Upper Egypt or a Phrygian cap. A sidelock of youth falls down the right side of her face, suggesting she may be a goddess of silence or secrets similar to Harpocrates, or perhaps she was simply a votive figure. Either way, a fascinating piece with an elegant presentation! Size: 1.2" W x 4.8" H (3 cm x 12.2 cm)
