Description
Ancient Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A mold-formed faience amulet depicting a large avian-form version of Horus, god of the sun, in a relatively well-preserved state. The bird stands atop nubbin legs with wings folded neatly against its sides, its feathers and poignant face enveloped with layers of lustrous blue glaze, a color evocative of the healing properties of the Nile River waters. Atop the bird's head is a Pschent crown showing Horus' dominion over both Upper and Lower Egypt. Size: 1.23" L x 0.62" W x 1.78" H (3.1 cm x 1.6 cm x 4.5 cm); 2.28" H (5.8 cm) on included custom stand.
