Description
Ancient Egypt, Late Dynastic to Romano-Egyptian Period, ca. 760 CE to 200 CE. A mold-formed faience pendant depicting a clenched fist - with the forefinger holding the thumb underneath - known as a sign of mercy. This example is covered in turquoise-hued glaze and features an integral suspension loop at the end of the wrist. A modern brass suspension loop is included for use in wear. Size: 0.32" L x 0.50" W x 1.13" H (0.8 cm x 1.3 cm x 2.9 cm)
Exhibited at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) from 1986 to 1991; in the University of Arizona Museum of Art, October 1993 to December 1993; and in the Robert and Frances Fullerton Museum of Art (RAFFMA), California State University, San Bernardino from 1996 to 2023, reference number EL01.236.1996.

Minor fading to glaze pigment, with light earthen deposits, and softening to some finer details, otherwise intact and excellent. Great preservation to overall form.
