Description
Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate to Ptolemaic Period, ca. 1070 to 30 BCE. A wearable necklace strung with dozens of tubular faience beads covered in lustrous blue glaze. Dangling from the center is a pendant representing Imsety (also Amsety, Amset), the human-headed Son of Horus responsible for protecting the liver of a deceased individual. The Four Sons were charged with protecting the internal organs, as they had originally been charged with protecting the body of Osiris. Imsety protected the liver, was oriented with the south direction, and was himself protected by the goddess Isis. Size (necklace): 29.75" L (75.6 cm); (Imsety pendant): 0.64" W x 2.99" H (1.6 cm x 7.6 cm)

Condition
Wearable as shown and strung in modern times. Minor abrasions and fading to glaze pigment on pendant and some beads, with light pitting on pendant, otherwise intact and excellent. Great remains of glaze pigment throughout.
