Description
Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala culture, ca. 600 to 100 BCE. A necklace strung with 20 hand-carved stone beads in hues of gray, black, and green. Each oblong bead has a biconical drill hole through the thickest part of its body, enabling them to be suspended. Size (necklace): 32" L (81.3 cm); (stone pendant): 2.3" L x 0.75" W x 0.6" H (5.8 cm x 1.9 cm x 1.5 cm)

Provenance: private Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA collection; ex-Minerva Gallery; ex-Benjamin Vega, California, USA, acquired in 2006 to 2007; ex-Gene and Virginia George, brought to the USA from 1961 to 1966

Condition
Wearable as shown and strung in modern times. Stone beads are ancient; stringing is modern. Some beads with light earthen deposits, minor abrasions, and small chips, otherwise intact and very good. Nice presentation!
