Item Details
Description
Four Late 1800s And Early 1900s Railroad And Traveler Guide Books A small group of early railroad guide books including an 1879 Strangers and Citizens Hand Book and Official Guide to Railroads, Steamship, Business Houses, and Places of Interest in Philadelphia by Burk & McFetridge with 64 pages, a fold out map of Philadelphia, illustrations, and advertisements. The hardcover book is embossed on the spine with gold lettering and has a partial call number sticker. The cover shows general discoloration spots and worn edges. The interior pages are in good to fair condition with some discoloration, stain spots, and worn edges. An advertisement in the back has been repaired along the edges with tape and another fold out has a creased edge. An 1898 Central Railroad of New Jersey Travelers and Tourists Guide to the Seashore Lakes and Mountains in fair condition, with 187 pages, illustrations, and some advertisements. The hardcover has separated from the interior pages and the spine is missing. Many pages throughout show writing marks. The title page, first few pages, and some pages throughout have separated from the binding. Pages at the front and back show moderately torn edges. The book is contained in a grey folder with title and library call number on the spine. An 1892 Railroad Guide Travelers' Hand Book Description of Principal Cities and Towns in the United States by Charles W. Chase. The book is contained in a hard cardboard cover sleep with Railroad Guide 1892 on the spine in gold lettering. The over 600 page book appears to be missing the entire cover with the string binding visible and is possibly missing pages at the front and back. The book contains many railroad maps and through time tables. The first page shows writing marks and all the page edges are brittle from age and may flake off. Many pages are mildly to moderately torn throughout. Group also includes a 1918-19 Travelers Railway Guide Western Section With Through Time Tables to All Principal Points with 544 pages. The hardbound book has leather corners and spine with gold lettering, and measures 6" x 8" x 2 3/4". The corners and edges are moderately worn and the leather of the spine is worn along the edges and cracked at the top and bottom. The leather is not connected to the back cover. There are also call number writing marks on the spine and a Midwest Inter-Library Center stamp inside the cover. The bottom right corner of the interior pages are torn but the interior pages appear to be in good condition overall with patina from age and a few minor writing marks.
