Description
Lot of Japanese woodblock printed books and maps, Edo-early Meiji period, mostly on travel and geography. Comprising of:1. Bankoku orai (Views of the World 万国往来), by Yomo Shunsui, 1871. Geography textbook featuring many copperplate engravings including a hand-colored double-leaf world map. 1 vol, printed on double-leaves of ricepaper, Japanese string binding with paper cover. 22.5 cm. Fair condition (flaws to cover, slight worming).2. Two large folded maps, including a detailed map of Yamashiro no Kuni (the southern part of modern Kyoto Prefecture), 1866, in a cloth and cardboard slipcase with clasps (92X56 cm), and an additional colored map, apparently of Mount Nikko-Shirane (38X52 cm). 3. Satsuma Miyage (薩摩土産, Souvenirs of Satsuma), a guidebook of Satsuma (the old name of Kagoshima Prefecture), 1899, by Kame-kura Soh-ta (亀岡倉太). Featuring many illustrations and a folded map. 21 cm. Fair condition (tears and slight stains). 4. Keio Yonen Boshin Rokugatsu (慶応四年戊申六月, Diary Record of Kan’to Garrison), 1868. 17.5 cm. Fair condition (flaws to cover and binding).5. Kouboh Daishi Wasan Ryakukai (弘法大師和讃略解, Small Commentary on Japanese Buddhistic Hymn for Kobo Daishi), by Saeki Jimei (佐伯慈明), 1882. 21 cm. Good condition (flaws to cover and binding).6. Tokyo-Joh-Nisshi (東京城日誌, Tokyo Castle Diary), published by the Daijo-kan (Great Council of State), 1868. Woodblock printed on double-leaves of ricepaper, Japanese string binding.
