Description
A primitive carved wooden secret Society cult idol with classic facial features, well handled armless simplistic torso and legs and well weathered surface. Lega peoples, Bwami Society, DRC/ Congo, central Africa. The sculpture measures 13 inches tall by 3 x 3 inches wide on wooden base. Provenance: Ex Gregory Votaw 1928-2020 Collection, he worked for the World Bank from 1963 to 1978 as regional director for Africa, and regional director for major infrastructure and industry development projects in India, Bangladesh, Korea, the Philippines, Japan, and Sub-Saharan Africa. Also Ex collection Dr Gilbert Jackson collection, MD, USA.
