Description
A tall carved wooden shrine idol embellished with many vodun implements, including the iron axe of Hevioso, The God of thunder and lightning, as well as several wooden spirit figures, iron chains, anklets and bells and most notably the terracotta vessel on the head said to house a spirit. The figure measures 30 x 6.5 x 6 inches on a 8 x 10 inch wooden display stand. Fon peoples, Togo / Dahomey, West Africa. Provenance: Published on two full page photo's in the Book House of the Spirit, The Danny Simmons collection by Donna Page, and was exhibited at the QCC Museum and Gallery in New York City, March-May 2010.
