Ancient Near East / Central Asia, Sassanian (Sasanian / Sassanid) Empire, ca. 224 to 651 CE. An impressive stone stamp seal bead of a standing ibex facing left. The stylized animal presents a furry coat, delineated with incised dashes and a pair of huge, sweeping horns. Natural mottled hues of olive and sage beautifully complement the hemispherical body of the bead. Size of bead: 1" Diameter x 6" H (2.5 cm x 15.2 cm); of custom box: 2.5" L x 1" W x 3" H (6.4 cm x 2.5 cm x 7.6 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Pasadena, California, USA collection acquired before 2000
