A carved wooden mortar with numerous mask like faces around the cup edge with a well worn handle and obvious field use and wear. Most likely used by a village shaman to grind up and prepare medicines. The wooden vessel measures 6.25 x 4.75 inches. Dan peoples, Ivory Coast, West Africa. Provenance: Prof Gould collection, New York.
