Description
This is a Zhengde reign bowl from the Ming dynasty. The Zhengde reign of ancient China lasted from 1506-1521. The motif on the interior of the bowl is a typical Zhende motif as well as the bird and floral motif on the outside. Zhengde bowls tend to be more subtle in decoration than the previous reigns of Honzi and Chenghua, alas they are still important and intriguing pieces to be sure. Glaze contractions and a partially rusted piece of iron are visible, all of which are natural occurrences from the time of firing. There is one hairline crack visible and a very tiny chip on the inside of the upper rim that is difficult to distinguish. The bowl was recently purchased from a collector in Ayutthaya, Thailand. The collector also known as Yai, has been collecting for over forty years. The bowl measures 12.9cm wide by 6.2cm high.
