Description
World War II era German radio receiver, 13.5 in. high x 19 in. wide x 8.5 in. deep; although very heavy, 42 lbs. actually, it is meant for use in the field and on the move. Designed to be mounted on a back pack frame with attachment hardware that is built into the receiver case. This E383N2 model, manufactured in 1937, is marked at the top left as ‘Type L.Mw.HE / 24b-316’ and ‘Nr. 85971-38’. Just beneath the nomenclature plate, is a stamped German national emblem in blue ink. Housed in a steel enclosure case, it features a metal lid which is tightly closed by metal clasps. Lid is meant to be removed while being carried on the backpack frame, for mobile use by a radio operator who is not carrying the pack and receiver. The interior of the lid bears an original label stating that the receiver should be removed every three months for lubrication. The radio itself, including the various rheostats, connectors, and indicator dials, appear to be clean and well-preserved. All knobs and switches are present and moveable. The original steel case shows remnants of original brown paint, showing through from under a field green overcoat. Finish shows signs of heavy use and scratches. Undamaged, in very good overall condition. Not tested.
