WW2 German U-boat 108 photo album. Militaria, WW2 / WWII / Second World War / World War 2 photograph album, U-Boat Obermechanikermaat Willi Wilke, U-108 of 2nd & 8th Flotillas, Kriegsmarine : An annotated album of monochrome photographs, including the commissioning ceremony at Bremen 1940, portraits of Kapitan-Leutnant Klaus Scholtz, freezing conditions in the Baltic, sinking the Effna off Iceland during the boat's first patrol, numerous portraits of submariners at Lorient, a crew member holding an exhausted whimbrel, several interior shots depicting the control room and stern torpedo room, exterior shots displaying the boat's painted polar bear motif on the conning tower. The type IXB U-boat U-108 was destroyed in 1944 after sinking over 130,000 GRT of shipping. Some of the men named are reputed to have gone on to command their own U-boats and lost their lives when submarines were sunk
