Description
A scarce German Olympic stickpin, 2.5 in. long, comprised of gilded non-ferrous metal and white enamel, showing the Olympic rings beneath a German national eagle. This stickpin would have accompanied a German civil medal with similar design, created to recognize those who had orchestrated 'behind the scenes' contributions to the event. Some notable individuals were bestowed the First Class decoration, including Reinhard Heydrich, Karl Wolff and Heinrich Himmler for providing security, Hermann Fegelein for overseeing the preparation of the equestrian events, and Leni Riefenstahl for filming the various competitions. The Second Class award was presented to just 3,364 other administrators, making this stickpin example quite scarce. Wear and some loss to enamel, otherwise very good, with the original presentation card.
