Description
Aron Cypen Lubitsh WPA Era Vintage Photograph of the South showing an African American gentleman seated on the front steps to his house, Signed, 9 1/2 x 7 1/2" image size, 15 x 12" overall
One photographer whose work is not very well-known is Aron Cypen Lubitsh. Lubitsh was an American Army photographer in World War II, and he traveled with Gen. Patton’s Third Army in France and Germany in 1944 and 1945. His photographs in this exhibition show American GIs, German prisoners of war, concentration camps and refugees. These images are significant not only as historical documents, but also because they provide an unrestricted and gritty view of the war through the eyes of an American soldier.
