Description
second half 19th century, 190 x 113 cm, North East Persia, Khorasan
BOUCHER, JEFF W., Baluchi Woven Treasures. Alexandria, VA 1989, pl. 14
A Baluch from the Torbat-e Haydari region, woven in a tile design of hexagonal compartments that contain gul-like hooked designs or polygons decorated with hooks in salmon and brown-red. A bag face with the same field design is illustrated in Boucher. The motifs are arranged in steep colour diagonals in our example. In the wide red main border, a rectilinear vine runs around tree forms and rosettes.
Good condition, the original flatwoven selvedges and short brown kilim ends survive.
