Description

Sxith plate daguerreotype. Housed in full leatherette case.

Daguerreotype of a young infant who appears to be deceased. Interestingly, the child's remains rest on the seat of a carriage, which appears to have been covered with a dark sheet. Post-mortem images were common during the 19th century; this particular arrangement - using a carriage to "display" the dead infant - is quite unusual. There is some spotting and haze to the plate that does not interfere with the subject matter.
