Description
A Luba Stool with Maternity Figure Democratic Republic of Congo, late 19th to early 20th century Hardwood blackened all over. The female sits with legs folded back, her rotund torso with numerous scarification marks (cicatrix), the infant holding itself away from her body, its head turned to its left. The mother supports the seat of the stool with her head and raised hands grasping the sides. In good condition, appropriate for its age, origin, materials, and use; the base broken and repaired from five large pieces.
