A Pende Maternity Democratic Republic of Congo, early to mid 20th century The kneeling female presenting the infant horizontally across her abdomen. The wood covered with a red ocher pigment, black pigment on the coiffures. Cut from a stockade post. In good condition, slightly weathered with erosion on the body of the infant.
