George Holloway (1882 - 1977) Oil on Canvas, Signed Lower Left, Measures (24 x 30 inches) w/frame (25.5 x 31.5 inches) Born in 1882, George Holloway was elected an Entertaining Member (or Blue Feather) of the Bristol Savages*, Bristol England in 1923. Little is known about him before this point except that he served in the First World War as a Staff Captain in the Royal Artillery, and that he was in business with the local printing firm of Holloway and Sons. At the time he became a Blue Feather he was already a well known entertainer. He was an elocutionist and specialised in monologues. He also made over a thousand broadcasts for the BBC, was a past member of the Bristol Playgoers` Society and a life member of the British Empire Shakespeare Society. In his business life was a past Chairman of the Bristol Master Printers` Association. In 1961 George was elected an Artist Member of the Savages. He was a talented painter, mainly in water colour. In the studio on a Wednesday evening he showed himself to be a fine figurative artist.
