Mercury 7 Signed Photo at the White House with Kennedy & Johnson
A signed photograph of the first selected astronauts at the White House with President John F. Kennedy and Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson. Measuring 7.75" x 10", [Washington, D.C.], n.d. [ca. May 1963]. The group of Mercury Seven astronauts are photographed with their wives along with the president and vice president on the steps outside the White House. Signed by three members, " Walter Schirra", "Gordon Cooper", and "Scott Carpenter" on the lower margin. Minor smudging to the end of Carpenter's signature. All boldly signed. Very good overall.
Soon after the first group of NASA astronauts were selected, the seven men visited the White House to meet with President John Kennedy and Vice President Lyndon Johnson. The original seven astronauts included Walter Schirra, Gordon Cooper, Scott Carpenter, Alan Shepard, Gus Grissom, Deke Slayton, and John Glenn.
