Description
A Victorian sterling silver mounted glass claret jug, London 1873 by Martin, Hall and Co the clear glass body of rounded form with a star cut base, the body with wheel engraved ribbon tied branches of holly leaves. The mounts with a bacchanalian mask to the spout below three bacchanalian cherubs frolicking with libations, opposite a shaped section handle with ball sections and chased stylised leaves. The hinged domed lid surmounted by a bell form finial. The neck mount with a scalloped edge, engraved with trailing holly leaves, repeated to the lid. Gilt interior. Fully marked to the side and part-marked to the lid. Height – 24.8 cm / 9.75 inches
