A Victorian Scottish sterling silver mounted glass ‘aesthetic’ claret jug, Edinburgh 1875 by Hamilton and Inches The clear glass body of tapering with silver mounted star cut foot, the body with wheel engraved decoration of bouquets of flowers between trailing ribbons. The mounts with a short pouring spout opposite a scroll handle formed as a bifurcated bamboo section, leading to a hinged domed lid surmounted by a finial of the Indian deity Vishnu. The neck mount and lid with engraved decoration of parakeets among branches and foliage, all against a stippled ground similar engraved foliage repeated to the foot rim mount. Fully marked to the side and part-marked to the lid. Height –27.8 cm / 11 inches
