Description
The figure depicts a young boy dressed as a sailor during the national celebrations of Red October, holding a bouquet of flowers in his left hand and waving a red flag with the inscription "Glory to October".
On his cap, is the name of the ship "Aurora". Infamous for its role in the October Revolution of 1917 whos shot signaled the start of the revolutionaries assult on the Winter Palace during the October Revolution in St. Petersburg. Behind the boy is an anchor.
Signed "Baranovka Nazarenko" in red on the underside of the base.
Due to the mark being hand written and not a stamp, it can be assumed that this is a first generation model, i.e. a prototype and may never have been put into production or only in very small numbers.
Produced at the Baranovka factory in the second half of the 20th century, the factory was based in the Zhytomyr region of the Ukrainian USSR and existed from the early 19th century. During the Russian Empire the factory was called The Mezer Porcelain Factory and produced a variety of wares and figurines for the Russian aristocracy.
This figurine dates from around 1960s as Nazarenko was a known artist there in 1960-1970s.
