RUSSELL LEE (American/Texas 1903-1986) TWO PHOTOGRAPHS, "Farmer with Pipe" and "Farmhouse Interior," CIRCA 1936-1937, two gelatin silver prints, produced for the Farm Security Administration, "Farmer with Pipe," signed and dated in pencil on the back mat, "Russell Lee 1936," 9 3/4" x 6 3/4", framed 21 3/4" x 17 3/4"; "Farmhouse Interior," 6 3/4" x 9", framed 21" x 17 1/4". Notes: Russell Lee originally worked for the Farm Security Administration in the late 1930s and developed a style known for social realism. This work brought him to Texas which became his home. In 1965, he became the first instructor in photography at the University of Texas, Austin.
