Description
NORTHERN SHENANDOAH VALLEY OF VIRGINIA FEDERAL CHERRY CHILD'S CHEST OF DRAWERS, the rectangular top having applied matchstick molding to the edges, above four graduated, scratch-beaded dovetailed drawers retaining their original brass knobs, the top drawer divided into four sections, flanked by solid case ends, the whole raised on a base with a cut-out skirt and modified French feet. Each drawer with an original black-painted decorative rectangular central reserve, the upper with vines spilling from an urn, the lower three depicting a landscape of trees. Yellow pine secondary wood. Retains an outstanding, untouched dry original surface. Frederick or Shenandoah Co., possibly Middletown, VA. Circa 1810. 18" H, 16" x 10 3/4".

Condition
Good as-found condition, front skirt with losses to facing, losses to base banding, proper left side of case with a 2" shrinkage crack off back edge, proper right end with small loss to matchstick molding at the back edge, wear to surfaces, one drawer knob is an old replacement.
