PAGE CO., SHENANDOAH VALLEY OF VIRGINIA LATE FEDERAL WALNUT CHILD'S CHEST OF DRAWERS, the rounded-edge single-board top above four dovetailed, graduated drawers with original turned-walnut knobs, flanked by solid ends, raised on an applied three-quarter frame base and well-turned feet, chamfered single-board back. Nice figuring to the drawer facings and veneers on the stiles and base-frame. Yellow pine secondary wood. Retains an excellent original surface. Probably the shop of John M. Keyser (abt. 1809-1872), Marksville/Honeyville area, Page Co., VA. Circa 1830. 23 1/4" H, 16" x 13 1/2".

Catalogue Note: An inked note dated May 1936 is taped underneath the top drawer; it reads, "This Small Chest of Drawers has been in the 'Petefish' family at Stanley Virginia for over one hundred years. Verified by statement made by John Mayes whose mother & grandmother have seen it there for over two generations."

Condition
Excellent condition, one knob held together with a rubber band, minor insect evidence to edges of the backboard, feet formerly fitted with casters and retain the metal guides to the undersides.
