Description
A carved wooden shrine idol or magic fetish used by a diviner as a talisman to ward off witchcraft and malevolent spirits. The sculpture is carved wood with a well weathered surface and most unusual twisted form. Such idols are known as bateba Thil Ti Puo, or Dangerous spirits and when the left arm is extended it is symbolic of witchcraft, as the left arm is believed to cast spells. The Idol measures 13 inches tall or 16 inches tall on professional custom display stand. Lobi peoples, Burkina faso, West Africa.
