Description
A tall slender carved wooden female effigy of a spirit known as a Bateba Phuwe or Thil. Such Idols were considered mediums to the spirit world and were placed on shrines owned by the village medicine man or shaman / priest wo would make offering to the spirits through the idol's. Lobi peoples, Burkina faso, West Africa. The Idol measures 33.5 inches tall on professional custom display stand. Provenance: The Dr Brian Healy estate, New York.
