Ernest Hemingway Superb Collection of 3 Vintage Photos
Nobel Prize-Winning American Novelist Ernest Hemingway (1899-1961), a superb collection of three vintage photographs, comprising:
1.) A 6.5” x 8.5” glossy black and white photograph of Hemingway in conversation with toreador Sydney Franklin during a "Victory Dinner" given him by publisher Dave Smart. New York, August 14, 1937. A slip of paper captioning the photograph is affixed at verso and reads: "'So I’ve got false hair on my chest, eh?'...famous author...gives further proof he is a he-man by talking out of the side of his mouth..." Graphite and red wax pencil notations at verso. International News backstamp present. It appears that either news personnel or a previous collector had traced a square around Hemingway's head, as pencil impressions and erasures are visible. Minor warping and creases. Soiling and staining. In near very good condition. With RMY Auctions Letter of Authenticity.
2.) A 10” x 8” glossy black and white photograph of Hemingway signing a copy of his book as his fourth wife, Mary, looks on. The Roosevelt Hotel, New Orleans, circa 1955. Notations in red wax pencil and blue felt tip at verso, along with several datestamps and photographer credits. Recto shows stray notations in blue felt tip at top margin and red at bottom left. Minor warping, folds and creases. Scattered surface imperfections. In very good condition. With RMY Auctions Letter of Authenticity.
3.) An 8” x 10” black and white semi-gloss photograph of Hemingway’s favorite chair in the living room of his home, The Ernest and Mary Hemingway House, in Ketchum, Idaho. Taken in August of 1967, the room had remained untouched since his death by suicide six years prior. Verso has an affixed news clipping, labels, datestamps, and pencil and ink notations. Discoloration at upper right and left of center. Very minor warping, folds and creases. Wear to corners. Pencil notations at bottom right margin. Scattered surface imperfections. In very good plus condition. With RMY Auctions Letter of Authenticity.
