1864 Louisiana Black Teamster Tintype - Possibly Unique!
A large tintype of an 1864 African American Teamster. Measuring 6.75" x 4.75", [Louisiana], ca. 1864. An interesting tintype photograph captioned "1864 Slave Teamster, Louisiana. Load of Belt Drive Pulleys for Textile Mill." In the photograph, a horse-drawn cart is loaded up with metal materials along a riverside. The teamster is a Black man, while the other three workers appear to be Caucasian. Another horse is pictured at the far right, although it does not appear to be hitched to the cart. The photograph is housed in a matted card measuring 9.25" x 6.25" overall. With clipped corners, the photo has minor scratches, imperfections, and areas of rubbing throughout. Slightly curled or bent. Overall very good.
